Blog Topic #7
I chose to use the movie Restrepo for this blog. I watched this documentary twice and couldn't get enough of it. One reason I loved it so much is because I love documentary because they are REAL. There is nothing better than watching a documentary. Everything you are watching is what happened for real. Another reason why I chose the topic Restrepo is because I have an older brother who is in the military. He has been on the inside and outside of Iraq driving the people of higher ranks around such as the generals, etc. He also drove around the families of those who had injured or killed kin. The 2nd Platoon is depicted defending an Observation Post (OP) named OP Restrepo, for PFC Juan Sebastián Restrepo, a Colombian-born naturalized U.S. citizen platoon medic who was killed earlier in the campaign. The film follows the 2nd Platoon of Battle Company on a 15-month deployment in the Korengal Valley of northeast Afghanistan. The Korengal Valley was at the time regarded as "the deadliest place on Earth" (as stated in the documentary itself, trailers, and television commercials on the National Geographic Channel).
